Well, my second Easter is over. Orthodox Easter is a bit full on and I am suffering from a lack of sleep coupled with over eating and drinking. Thank god I'm on holiday and in a position to recover fully! It all happened so fast, I particularly enjoyed the burning of Judas. From what I can gather that dude had it coming to him - nice of them to give it a party atmosphere - I mean, a straight hanging or burning would have just been depressing!
I thought it time to return to the 61 Drive-In which is situated, surprise,
surprise on U.S. Route 61. The drive-in is
situated close to the city of Maquoketa,
Iowa. I really can't tell you much about the city as I didn't visit it. This shot is taken from the fairly newly renovated or constructed concessions building which also houses the projection room. Concessions - that would be where you might get refreshments I assume? I am English you know, as far as I'm aware it's not a word we would use - anyway, if you come here for a movie (film) let's just say, you'll be catered for.
There are a few more of the place that will appear from time to time, but, I didn't want to throw them all up at once and bore the pants off of you. For those
with an interest, here is an aerial view of the 61 Drive-In and the surrounding
area. It would appear that the drive-in is situated on the old U.S. Route 61, which would account for why the road went nowhere!
We met by the love-lies-bleeding
In their rows of bright colour, and below the stars
We began a slow dance by the love-lies-bleeding
Over dampness and earth beneath the trees and stars
There, dust was our partner by the love-lies-bleeding
And yearning our torture and the stillness of night
I fell to the darkness by the love-lies-bleeding
For you were not there and I stood there on fire
As the embers cooled slowly by the love-lies-bleeding
My ashes took shape, took shape in the air
We met by the love-lies-bleeding
In their rows of bright colours and below the stars
