ok I'm back, well actually I have been back for a few days but immediately came down with food poisoning or something so the blog had to just sit. I was way to busy feeling sorry for myself. In fact I still do, us men do ill very well I find. Still, I'm back eating and almost drinking!
Crete was glorious, well I would say that I guess, but it was. Only one half day of rain the rest of the time it was shorts! New places and familiar places visited although I think I resisted the temptation to shoot any derelict windmills.....well perhaps one shot! Thank you all for the lovely comments whilst I was away. It will be slow but I'll get around to you all I promise.
It's odd not doing the posting for 2 weeks, you realise what a large part of your life this blogging becomes and just how much time you spend doing it. The rest really did me good apart from a very nice persistent spammer I had from Egypt! Unfortunately to get rid of him I think I may have blocked most IP addresses from that country. Ah well I never did get very many Egyptian visitors.
OK, just one more from the wonderful Motel Xenia. It will be the last for now but there are always more. Located in Amnisos (Αμνίσος, Κρήτη) Crete...derelict and beautiful. I know you have had the information below before but hey think about those poor unsuspecting first time visitors! I can't let them down...should one arrive! Anyway, there are a number in the series that can be seen easier if you pop over to Flickr. This is number 16 to be posted and I still have a few more up my sleeve. Designed by the architect ΑΡΗΣ ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΙΔΗΣ (Aris Konstandinidis) (1913-1993). He worked for E.O.T (Greek Tourism Board) between 1957-1967. Today the motel just seems to sit and decay beautifully. I have no idea how long it has been empty nor how long it will be before they level the site. It's situated right on the beach front so one would think prime building land given that it is only about 15 minutes from the airport. I have even managed to find a decent aerial view of the place. So here is a map of the Motel Xenia. The cross shaped building is the centre of the complex.
Could you grow a new heart
And could you run the distance
In the time that it takes
Before it all fell apart?
We fell through the cracks
Stole the sheets and burned the maps
Watched the smoke flying from the stacks
Before it all fell apart
Particles on the fringe
There's a heaviness, this stillness brings
Those twisted palms, oh how they swing
Telling tales, young breathless things
Things that move on
Left wandering where the mystery's gone
