I hope that you will forgive me this slight indulgence.
I went to a funeral today. It was Mandy's funeral (Madeline Ella Reynolds 1945-2007). She was a beautiful person, full of life and vitality. Cheeky, always with a glint in her eye as if she was kidding you in some way. I only knew her for a few years but my life is so much the richer for having known her. She loved the great outdoors and was a passionate walker......when ever we spoke on the phone the conversation always got around to her garden, her pond, frogs and the possibility of a frog spawn swap! As well as being a wonderful person she was an outstanding architectural photographer. Being the official photographer for the Millennium Dome and architectural photographer of the year in 2001. For those who knew her and loved her their lives will be touched for ever by having met her. For many they will have wondered at her beautiful photographs and yet perhaps have no idea who she was....their lives will be all the richer regardless.
It was a beautiful service which ended with this poem and this song. "I Only Want To Be With You" - Dusty Springfield
You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
